British tourist's body found in suitcase in Athens' Kypseli

A 38-year-old British tourist, identified as Elizabeth Jane Ross from Scotland, was found dead inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens after a homeless person alerted police to suspicious luggage.

Authorities say Ross arrived in Greece on June 29 and was last seen on July 15. Police later identified her and notified next of kin.

Forensic examiners reported they found no visible injuries or signs of a struggle on the body; the precise cause of death will be determined when toxicology results are complete. Investigators estimate she most likely died five to seven days before her body was discovered.

International cooperation as probe continues

The Hellenic Police are carrying out the inquiry in cooperation with Interpol and with assistance from British and Cypriot authorities. Detectives are reconstructing Ross’s movements in the period before she disappeared and are checking whether she was travelling alone.

The British Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing consular support to the woman’s family. Police have not released further operational details while the investigation continues.
