Birthday party brawl in Borča: father and waiter injured, suspect detained

Violence erupted during a child's birthday party at a café in Borča, a Belgrade suburb, after a long-standing dispute between the child's father and the mother's current partner turned physical.

According to court sources, the father, identified as R.D. (30), and his ex-wife S.S. were celebrating their child's birthday when S.S.'s current partner, N.S., attended the event. Tension between R.D. and N.S. had been simmering for some time and escalated at about 22:00 when the cake was brought out.

Witnesses say N.S. grabbed the cake and threw it in front of the venue. A heated argument quickly turned into a fight between N.S. and R.D. During the scuffle, N.S. pulled a knife and attacked R.D., inflicting a cut to the right forearm and a fracture to the right palm.

Chaos inside the café

The child's mother, S.S., intervened and threw a plate amid the commotion; the plate struck waiter L.B. in the head. The waiter immediately sought medical assistance.

Police detained N.S. at the scene. He has been placed in custody for up to 48 hours, and the prosecution will ask the court to impose pretrial detention to prevent witness tampering and to reduce the risk of the offense being repeated.

Local authorities are continuing the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and to determine any additional charges.
