Serious crash near Kozjak: seven injured in four-vehicle collision
Accident on the regional road to Kozjak HPP near Varvara left one person with serious injuries and six others hurt, police say.

Seven people were injured on August 9, 2026, in a multi-vehicle collision on the regional road toward the Kozjak hydropower plant near the village of Varvara, north of Skopje, authorities reported. Four vehicles were involved in the crash.
"On 09.08.2026 at 16:00 hours the Skopje Police Department received a report that on the regional road to HPP Kozjak, in the area of the village Varvara, Skopje, a traffic accident occurred between a passenger vehicle Volkswagen Golf with Skopje registration plates, driven by E.Dzh. (19) from the village Crn Vrv, Skopje, a passenger vehicle SEAT with Skopje registration plates, driven by D.A. (31) from the village Batinci, Skopje, a truck Mercedes with Skopje registration plates, driven by Sh.S. (63) from the village Malchishte, Skopje and a passenger vehicle Ford with Skopje registration plates, driven by N.L. (47) from Skopje. In the accident, serious bodily injuries were sustained by B.R. (18) from the village Batinci, a passenger in the Golf, while bodily injuries were sustained by the four drivers, as well as B.O. (30) from the village Paligrad, Skopje and S.L. from Skopje, passengers in the Golf and the Ford, as certified at the Clinical Center "Mother Teresa" and the Public Health Institution "St. Naum Ohridski"." the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Investigation and response
Police investigators from the Skopje Police Department carried out an on-site inspection. Emergency services transported the injured to medical facilities in Skopje and the surrounding area for treatment and further examination.
According to the MIA statement, the most seriously injured is B.R. (18), a passenger in the Volkswagen Golf; the four drivers and two other passengers suffered injuries of varying severity and were examined at the Clinical Center "Mother Teresa" and at the Public Health Institution "St. Naum Ohridski".
Traffic on the regional road to the Kozjak HPP was affected while police completed the inspection. Authorities have not released further information about the causes of the collision; the investigation remains open.
