Tiger mosquito outbreak: 24 hospitalized, one dead

A tiger mosquito has triggered an outbreak that has put around one hundred thousand residents across ten settlements under epidemic measures; 24 people have been hospitalized and one patient has died at the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

Health services report that five of the hospitalized patients are in critical condition and are supported by mechanical ventilation.

Origin and spread

The outbreak started in Dracevo, which accounts for about half of the recorded infections. Our colleague Bljana Nikolovska was there.

Public health authorities have issued recommendations for how citizens can protect themselves and are monitoring the situation closely, while hospitals continue to treat the most severe cases.

Officials say epidemiological teams are working to trace and contain further transmission, and residents in affected settlements are being urged to follow official guidance.
