Teenager in Indiana sentenced to 100 years for woman’s killing
Dzo "Madze" Lari, 15, was given 50 years for murder and 50 years for gang membership after a February shooting outside a nightclub in Anderson, Indiana.
A 15-year-old from Indiana was sentenced to 100 years in prison after a jury and judge found him responsible for the death of Delva Swain in a gang-related shooting.
The shooting took place in February last year in front of a nightclub in Anderson, Indiana; the defendant, Dzo "Madze" Lari (15), was convicted in June for his role in the attack.
Prosecutors: victim was not the intended target
Prosecutors said the shooting stemmed from a failed attempt to kill a witness connected to a different crime. Swain, who investigators say was not the intended target, was killed during the assault; two other people were wounded.
The court imposed consecutive terms that add up to 100 years: 50 years for the murder charge and an additional 50 years for membership in a criminal organization. Lari was one of four suspected members of the group identified as Miki Cobra Nation who were charged in the case.
Two other defendants have already received long sentences: 19-year-old Rashonm Semjuels was sentenced to 125 years, while another accused in the case previously received a 90-year prison term.
