Tineks to operate in partnership with Kosovo’s Interex

Tineks, one of North Macedonia’s retail chains that has faced liquidity strains in recent months, will run its business going forward under a partnership agreement with Kosovo-based Interex, company sources say.

New partner and financial backing

Interex is the second-largest supermarket chain in Kosovo and is part of a holding that owns fuel stations, substantial real estate and liquid assets intended to help Tineks address the cash-flow challenges it has faced.

The Kosovo firm has been active since 2011 and operates a network of more than 30 stores. The Proex Corporation, owner of Interex, reported revenue of about 223.3 million euros last year, placing it among Kosovo’s largest companies and second in the retail sector behind Viva Fresh.

Two weeks ago Tineks-MT established a subsidiary named "Tineks Markets" with the same activity described as "Non-specialised retail trade," and subsequently transferred its stores to the new company as registered branches. The Macedonian retailer has so far declined to comment on the reports of a partnership agreement with the Kosovan company.

Registered as subsidiaries under Tineks Markets are 44 discount outlets and supermarkets, including those operating under the Delikates, Konto and Super brands, as well as the packaging warehouse and the facilities for meat processing and prepared-food production. The logistics and goods-storage centre was also moved to Petrovec.

In April Tineks publicly acknowledged liquidity difficulties but denied delays in salary payments and announced measures aimed at stabilising the company. In 2022 Viva Fresh was linked to a possible purchase of Tineks, a claim the Kosovan chain denied.
