Toni Kroos to enter coaching pathway and target UEFA A licence

Toni Kroos is preparing to move into coaching, taking the first planned steps toward a professional coaching career.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has notified the Royal Spanish Football Federation that he intends to join a specialised coaching programme for former professional players in the 2027/28 season. Successful completion of the programme would make him eligible to obtain a UEFA A coaching licence.

Kroos already holds certain coaching qualifications and is currently working with youth players at his academy near Madrid. He has made clear he wants to gain hands-on experience and progress gradually before accepting a senior-team role.

Step-by-step approach

Rather than rushing into first-team management, Kroos aims to build his coaching resume incrementally, combining formal education with practical work at academy level. The plan reflects a common pathway for ex-professionals who want to prepare thoroughly for the demands of top-level coaching.

At the same time, talks about a possible return to Real Madrid have resurfaced. Kroos’ relationship with the club’s leadership, headed by Florentino Perez, is described as excellent, and he has previously been discussed for a position within the club’s sporting structure.

While concrete decisions will hinge on the outcome of the 2027/28 coaching programme and the experience he accumulates at his academy, Kroos appears intent on following a deliberate route into coaching rather than making an immediate jump into senior management.
