The "Spurs" began the game with several promising opportunities, but Aston Villa found the net three times and moved decisively toward victory. Tottenham pulled two late goals in the final stages, but there was not enough time to complete a turnaround.
Early-season struggles deepen
After five matches, Roberto De Zerbi's side still have no wins and have collected only two points. The defeat leaves Tottenham in the relegation zone as the campaign moves forward.
Concern inside the club is heightened by the summer spending spree: the squad benefitted from investments of around 420 million pounds on new signings, yet results on the pitch so far have not matched that outlay.
Fans and club officials will now be under pressure to find answers quickly as the team attempts to arrest a worrying start to the season.
