Tottenham revive interest in Cody Gakpo — could Liverpool lose one of their top players?
Tottenham have renewed interest in the Netherlands international, but Liverpool say they expect him to remain in their squad for the new season.
02.08.2026 18:45 — Tottenham have reopened talks over the possible signing of Cody Gakpo, with renewed contact reported between the London club and the forward's representatives.
Sources say discussions so far have been constructive and that Gakpo is reportedly open to considering a move to Tottenham this summer. The 25-year-old Netherlands international is believed to view this window as a potential moment for a fresh challenge in his career.
Squad picture at Liverpool
Despite the interest, Liverpool are not currently prepared to negotiate a sale. Club officials have made it clear they expect Gakpo to remain part of their plans for the upcoming season and that the final decision about any transfer rests with the club.
Part of Liverpool's calculation is the emergence of young Rio Ngumoh, who is viewed as a candidate to develop into the regular left-sided forward role over time. At the same time, Alexander Isak is listed as the club's first-choice centre forward, which could limit Gakpo's long-term starting opportunities.
Even if Tottenham pursue the move, all indications for now point toward Gakpo staying with Liverpool and continuing under the coach Andoni Iraola for the next campaign.
