Mother killed outside Urban Air during son's birthday in Sacramento
Samantha Lee Cromwell, 29, was killed outside Urban Air; suspect Edward Tucker Jr., 36, arrested and held without bail.

A routine birthday party for an eight-year-old boy ended in bloodshed when his mother was shot and killed outside the Urban Air family entertainment center in Sacramento.
The victim, 29-year-old Samantha Lee Cromwell, was pronounced dead at the scene after an apparently unannounced attacker opened fire in the parking area. Her eight-year-old son had been attending the celebration.
Suspect arrested, faces multiple charges
Police quickly detained 36-year-old Edward Lee Daniel Tucker Jr., who is now charged with murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm. Authorities say he is being held without bail.
Investigators report that Tucker Jr. already had an extensive criminal history connected to violent offenses and illegal weapons. In the shooting, a friend who had been with Cromwell, identified as Faith, was seriously wounded and taken to hospital in critical condition.
Family members said Cromwell had long sought to escape a relationship marked by physical and psychological abuse and had ultimately divorced. After her death, care for the boy has been taken over by close relatives.
