Trump and Hegseth link 9/11 commemoration to war with Iran
At Pentagon events marking the 25th anniversary, both compared the 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans to the ongoing U.S. war with Iran.
President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used remarks at events marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks to draw a direct parallel between those assaults, which killed nearly 3,000 Americans, and what they described as the United States' ongoing war with Iran.
Speaking at the Pentagon — the site where 184 people died in the 2001 attack — Hegseth framed the current confrontation with Iran as part of a continuing struggle against forces that want to harm the United States.

Hegseth told the assembled audience that the threat persists and that adversaries continue to plot against American power and citizens. He said the struggle that began with the terrorist attacks two and a half decades ago has not ended.
“The fight against evil continues now. There are still enemies who hate us. The enemies daily plot to limit our power and to kill our citizens, including Islamic terrorists abroad and in the country,” Hegseth said.
Trump, in his own remarks at commemorations, likewise invoked the events of September 11 as a point of comparison for current U.S. military and security efforts, linking the memory of the attacks to the administration’s stance toward Iran.
The comments came on the same day the nation observed the 25th anniversary of the attacks that killed almost 3,000 people and reshaped U.S. foreign and security policy.
