Donald Trump says he will decide soon on extending military action against Iran
Trump says he is weighing further strikes to permanently halt Iran’s nuclear programme while CENTCOM steps up preparations

President Donald Trump said last night he will decide soon whether to extend the military campaign against Iran — a conflict the United States and Israel opened in February to try to stop Tehran’s development of nuclear weapons.
Trump said he is weighing further strikes to ensure Iran’s nuclear programme is permanently halted. He also told reporters he wants to avoid additional destruction inside Iran, but did not rule out further attacks.
"You will know soon," Trump said.
Next steps and military posture
After a meeting with his national security advisers, Trump said the United States has achieved all of its objectives in Iran and that he will set the next steps soon. He did not specify a timetable for any decision.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has stepped up preparations for a possible continuation of large-scale military operations in Iran, an official in the U.S. administration said, although CENTCOM has not yet received new orders from Washington.
Meanwhile, mediators have travelled to Tehran several times in recent days, and Trump has spoken recently about potential progress in negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.
