Trump asks removal of US ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle

President Donald Trump has asked for the removal of the United States ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, the White House confirmed on Monday.

The move follows a series of media reports that accused Guilfoyle of favoring business interests, accepting luxury trips paid for by Greek businessmen and asking a Republican donor for $100,000 in exchange for access to senior administration officials.

White House confirmation and political fallout

The request was confirmed by White House spokeswoman Keti Zaharia at her first briefing in the new role. Zaharia said the administration had made the decision after reviewing the recent allegations and reports.

Guilfoyle has been under growing pressure since a Wall Street Journal report detailed her conduct after taking the ambassadorial post and during her time working in Athens. Those revelations prompted intensified scrutiny of her ties to both political and private-sector actors.

Kimberly Guilfoyle has long been part of Donald Trump’s inner political and family circle. A former prosecutor and television host, she spent more than a decade at Fox News. Before her relationship with Donald Trump Jr., she was married to California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr. began dating during the president’s first term and became engaged in 2020. Their relationship ended four years later after Trump Jr. started appearing publicly with Bettina Anderson, a relationship that later led to marriage. Shortly after their split, President Trump nominated Guilfoyle to serve as ambassador to Greece. Now, amid the controversies and public accusations, he has asked that she step down from the post.
