Trump reposts map showing Venezuela as the 51st U.S. state

On 02 August, 2026 15:21 President Donald Trump again posted an image on Truth Social that depicts Venezuela as the 51st state of the United States. The picture shows a map of northern South America with the territory of Venezuela coloured in the pattern of the American flag.
Repeat of an earlier motif
The post reprises a theme Mr. Trump has used before: edited maps and photos suggesting expanded U.S. territorial claims. In January he shared an altered image in which Venezuela, Greenland and Canada were overlaid with the U.S. flag.
Observers note the timing puts the post in the context of dramatic developments earlier this year: at the beginning of 2026 the United States carried out an attack on Venezuela and captured then-president Nicolás Maduro and his wife; they were taken to the United States and will face charges of narcoterrorism.
