Trump at the UN: "America is back and doing better than ever"
Speaking at the General Debate of the 81st UN General Assembly, President Trump said the United States "is back" and claimed record employment and low poverty.
On 22 September 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the General Debate at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and declared that the United States "is back" and is stronger than ever.
Trump says the US leads in economy, military and technology
In his speech Trump argued that other countries envy the American economy and that the United States "is the most powerful" militarily and leads in technology. "They envy our economy, our military is the most powerful in the world, our technology is the best and we lead in nearly every field. Our fuel powers the planet. Our country is doing better than ever, the future is bright," he said during the General Debate.
Trump also told the assembly that employment in the United States is at record levels and that poverty — including among African Americans and Hispanic Americans — is at historic lows. He credited his administration's economic policies for those outcomes.
"My administration is removing all unnecessary regulations. We cut taxes and have more investment than any country in history," Trump said, presenting deregulation and tax cuts as central achievements.
He added that he does not believe problems should be allowed to worsen because they then become harder to fix. He asked delegates to note what he described as actions taken rather than promises made: "So while others only talked, I acted. While others talked about peace, I delivered it. While others ignored threats, I confronted them. While others talked about courage, America showed it. While others promised strength, I used it to make America the most powerful country in the world. In cooperation with many of the nations present in this hall, we are solving decades-old, hard-to-solve challenges and finishing work that had been left undone for years. And we are doing it successfully," Trump emphasized.
