Trenchovski persuades Mitrovski to remain at Olimpija

Jugoslav Trenchovski made his debut as head coach of Olimpija Ljubljana on Ilinden, and the new arrival immediately moved to secure one of the club’s key players: Dimitar Mitrovski will remain with the team, Trenchovski said.

Coach: “He must stay”

Trenchovski led the squad into a league match against Aluminij at Stožice Stadium scheduled for 20:15, and used his first days in charge to settle pressing personnel questions.

About Mitrovski’s future the coach was blunt: "What departure? He is an excellent player, needed at Olimpija... He must stay!" Trenchovski said, closing the debate over whether the midfielder would leave the Slovenian club.

Mitrovski joined Olimpija last year in a record move worth €1,000,000 from Varazdin. Since then the club’s disappointing results and a tense dressing-room atmosphere have been reflected in his performances.

Reports say Mitrovski wanted to move on this summer and had offers from clubs outside Europe. Still, the arrival of Trenchovski changed the situation and the player will remain in the Dragons’ camp for the immediate future.

The coach’s early intervention gives Olimpija a chance to stabilise the squad while Trenchovski works to improve results and revive the team’s form.
