Wisla Plock beat Vardar in Skopje; coach Sabate praises the fans

On October 8, 2026, Wisla Plock defeated former European champion Vardar in a Group stage match of the EHF Champions League, with the final score recorded as 26:32. Vardar — winners of the continental title in 2017 and 2019 — suffered their third defeat in as many group games.

Sabate praises Skopje atmosphere

Despite a determined performance from Vardar, fuelled by a passionate home crowd at Jane Sandanski Hall, Wisla Plock proved the stronger side and claimed a deserved victory. The guests controlled key phases of the match and converted their chances to secure the win.

After the game, Wisla Plock coach Javier Sabate singled out both his players and the host fans in his remarks at the post-match press conference. He told reporters: "Congratulations to my players on the victory, given that you have to be perfect to win in Skopje. I must say that you have incredible supporters and the atmosphere here is always on point. My players showed character and they are most deserving of this win."

The result leaves Vardar with three defeats in the group, a difficult start for the team that won the Champions League in 2017 and 2019. Still, the players repeatedly came up against a charged arena and vociferous supporters who pushed the home side throughout the match.

Earlier in the evening former national team player Stefan Ristovski was among those in the stands, while the ultras group known as Komiti maintained their characteristic presence and style.
