KFM coaching clinic ends with record attendance

The Basketball Federation of North Macedonia (KFM) held a two-day coaching clinic in Skopje on 24 and 25 August, bringing together leading European coaches, domestic club coaches and a record number of basketball enthusiasts.

The event took place in the Rabotnicki hall that bears the name of Lazar Lečić, a figure widely recognised for his lasting impact on Macedonian and former Yugoslav basketball.

Programme and expert speakers

Over the two days attendees followed a varied programme focused on modern trends in basketball, youth development, the coach–parent–athlete relationship and the latest amendments to the official basketball rules. A highlight was the presence of one of Europe's most respected coaches, Svetislav Pešić, who delivered sessions on "Defensive transition" and "Positional defense".

Jose Maria Berokal, the head coach of North Macedonia's senior national team, addressed "Offensive transition", while Sasa Gruzic gave two lectures on the development of team offensive play and on individual offensive skills in youth basketball, with particular emphasis on players aged 10 to 18 years.

The KFM Referees Commission presented the changes to the Official Basketball Rules that will come into force on 1 October 2026, an item that attracted significant interest from coaches and officials.

Organisers highlighted that the clinic recorded the highest turnout to date for a domestic coaching event, underlining both the appetite for continuous education in North Macedonia and the strong connection within the national basketball community. The Basketball Federation thanked all lecturers, coaches, basketball workers and visitors and said it will continue to organise and support similar educational initiatives aimed at improving coaching standards and youth development.
