At least three people were killed and two others were wounded in a shooting near the In-N-Out restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, police said, and authorities confirmed the suspected shooter was killed during a law enforcement intervention.
"At least two people were injured in the violent incident, but that number could increase," said Twin Falls spokesperson Josh Palmer.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the suspect was shot and killed during the police response, but it remained unclear whether the suspect is among the three confirmed fatalities.
Police response and scene
Officials said they responded at about 2:30 p.m. local time after reports of shots fired in the vicinity of the In-N-Out on Blue Lakes North Boulevard. Emergency crews secured the scene and began treating the wounded.
"The identity of the suspect and the possible motive for the shooting are still being determined. We believe the danger to our community has passed," Hicks said at a press conference.
Investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the community and local officials await further details about the victims and the circumstances that led to the attack.
