Turkey dismisses Vincenzo Montella after four Nations League defeats
The Italy-born coach, appointed in 2023, was sacked after four losses in roughly twenty days during the UEFA Nations League.

Turkey have dismissed head coach Vincenzo Montella on October 9, 2026, after his side suffered a run of four defeats in the current UEFA Nations League cycle.
Montella's short run ends after heavy defeats
Montella, who was appointed as Turkey's national team coach in 2023, leaves with a record of 40 matches: 21 wins, 5 draws and 14 defeats. Four of those losses came within roughly twenty days during the Nations League.
The recent results included a 3:1 defeat to Italy away, a 3:0 loss to Belgium, a 1:4 reverse against Italy at home and a 0:1 defeat to France. Despite the fact that three of those opponents are among world football's leading sides, the run of results ended Montella's tenure.
Turkey also took part in the World Cup this summer under Montella but failed to progress from the group stage, losing their first two matches before finishing the tournament with a victory over the United States.
The same Nations League cycle saw North Macedonia record four defeats and fail to score a goal. The Turkish Football Federation announced the decision on October 9, 2026.
