Georgian tourist drowns in Lake Ohrid near Peshtani

Ohrid police say a 46-year-old Georgian man, identified as B.D., was pulled from the lake and later pronounced dead; the body was sent for autopsy.

Georgian tourist drowns in Lake Ohrid near Peshtani

A tourist from Georgia drowned yesterday in the waters of Lake Ohrid near the village of Peshtani, the Ohrid Police Department reported today.

According to police information, at 14:32 the Ohrid Police Department received a report that a male person had been pulled from the lake near Peshtani. Emergency Medical Service crews attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the scene but shortly afterwards pronounced the person dead.

Initial findings

Authorities said there were no visible injuries on the body. The preliminary investigation identified the deceased as 46‑year‑old B.D., a citizen of Georgia.

An on‑scene inspection was carried out, and by order of the public prosecutor the body was handed over for autopsy.

The police investigation into the circumstances of the drowning remains ongoing.
