Tourist plane crashes near Nazca Lines in Peru, 13 dead
The light aircraft operated by Aerodiana crashed near the UNESCO-listed Nazca Lines; 11 passengers and two pilots were aboard.
A small tourist plane crashed on August 1, 2026, while conducting a sightseeing flight near the Nazca Lines in southern Peru, killing all 13 people on board, authorities said.
The aircraft went down in the area of Pueblo Viejo, roughly six kilometres from the city of Nazca and about 12 kilometres from the archaeological site with the Nazca Lines, which is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Flight details
The light aircraft belonged to the Peruvian carrier Aerodiana. It had taken off from Pisco airport on a flight intended to fly over the Nazca Lines. Local authorities reported that the plane lost contact with the control tower a few minutes after departure.
Officials confirmed that the passengers and crew numbered 13 in total: 11 passengers and two pilots. All 13 people aboard were killed in the crash.
Peru’s Nazca Lines are among the country’s main tourist attractions, and sightseeing flights from nearby airfields are a common way for visitors to view the geoglyphs from the air. Authorities said they have opened an investigation into the accident.
