June tourism spike — 113,436 visitors, Turkey top source
In June 2026 the country recorded 113,436 tourists and 221,608 nights; foreign visitors made up 77.2% of arrivals and Turkey the largest single source.
North Macedonia saw a sharp rise in arrivals in June 2026, when 113,436 tourists visited the country and registered a total of 221,608 overnight stays, the State Statistical Office reported.
Foreign visitors accounted for the bulk of arrivals in June, representing 77.2 percent of all tourists, while domestic travellers made up 22.8 percent. The pattern was similar for overnight stays: foreign tourists generated 70.8 percent of nights, and domestic tourists 29.2 percent.
Top source markets and mid‑year trend
The largest single group of international guests in June came from Turkey (24,570 visitors), followed by Serbia (8,522), Germany (4,396) and Bulgaria (3,207).
Despite the June surge, figures for the first half of the year point to a modest decline in overall tourist traffic. In the period January–June 2026 the total number of tourists fell by 0.5 percent compared with the same period a year earlier. Domestic tourists dropped by 3.1 percent, while foreign tourists rose by 0.3 percent.
Overnight stays in the first six months were also down: total nights fell by 1.5 percent. Nights by domestic tourists declined by 3.3 percent and nights by foreign tourists decreased by 0.7 percent.
Even with the slight contraction across the first half of the year, international visitors continue to dominate tourism activity, and Turkey remained the single most important source market in June 2026.
