18-year-old arrested in France over alleged kidnapping plot that included Kylian Mbappé

An 18-year-old has been arrested in France on suspicion of organising a series of kidnappings and attacks that investigators say named several high-profile figures among potential targets, including Kylian Mbappé.

The suspect has been identified as Klement L. and is accused of taking part in a criminal scheme that, according to the investigation, plotted assaults and kidnappings of wealthy businessmen, a rapper and a football star who plays for Real Madrid and the French national team. Authorities say the alleged offences took place between April 11 and August 19 across several French towns.

Investigators traced the young suspect after an attack in April on the owner of a jewellery shop in Neuilly-sur-Seine. That incident led to his identification and further inquiries linking him to the wider alleged conspiracy.

Judicial measures and detention

On August 21, Klement L. was placed under formal investigation together with an alleged accomplice. The suspect was remanded in custody and placed in solitary confinement, while the other individual was released under judicial supervision.

The fact that a global football star such as Kylian Mbappé appeared on the group’s list of potential victims has drawn particular attention. Investigators say the group had compiled a longer list that included other well-known and wealthy people.

The probe remains ongoing, and French authorities continue to treat the case with high priority as they pursue leads across multiple municipalities.
