Driver arrested after hit‑and‑run in Skopje that killed 19‑year‑old motorcyclist

Police detained a man they say was involved with another vehicle in a traffic collision in Skopje in which a 19-year-old motorcyclist from the Skopje region died; the suspect fled the scene without assisting the injured. Authorities say they identified the vehicle after reviewing video footage and arrested the suspect last night in Arachinovo.

“During the inspection and after measures were taken and a recorded video was secured, it was established that a passenger vehicle ‘Seat Altea’ with Skopje registration plates also took part in causing the accident, but without physical contact, after which the driver left the scene with the vehicle without providing assistance to the injured,” the police said.

The detained man is 46-year-old S.O.; police located him at about 19:40 in the village of Arachinovo. He was taken to a police station, questioned, and remains deprived of liberty while investigators finish documenting the case. Authorities said an appropriate criminal complaint will be filed after the documentation is complete.

Crash details

The collision occurred yesterday at noon on Radishanska Street in Skopje. According to the preliminary account, a passenger car, an Alfa Romeo with Italian license plates driven by S.B. (47) from Skopje — who has temporary residence in the city — and a Kawasaki motorcycle with Skopje plates ridden by N.M. (19) from the village of Pobozhje, Skopje region, were involved.

The motorcyclist, N.M., died at the scene; an emergency medicine physician pronounced the death and, by order of a public prosecutor, the body was handed over for autopsy. The driver of the Alfa Romeo, S.B., suffered bodily injuries that were recorded at JZU ‘St. Naum Ohridski’.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash and will determine the exact charges once the entire case file is compiled.
