PSG win UEFA Super Cup, Madjo makes history
PSG beat Aston Villa 2:1 in Salzburg to retain the UEFA Super Cup, while 17-year-old Madjo made history as youngest participant and scorer.
Paris Saint-Germain defeated Aston Villa 2:1 in the UEFA Super Cup played in Salzburg on 12 August 2026, adding another trophy to their growing collection and successfully defending the Super Cup title they won last year.
Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 20th minute and Due doubled the lead in the 61st minute; Aston Villa had levelled through Madjo just before halftime, in the 45th minute. Madjo, at 17 years old, became the youngest player to appear in a Super Cup match and also the youngest scorer in the competition's history.
Villa, coached by Unai Emery, improved after the half-hour mark and created several opportunities — Madjo in particular troubled PSG’s defence. When Villa failed to convert two chances early in the second half after equalising, PSG struck through Due to regain the lead and ultimately secure the win.
PSG extends continental dominance
Under Luis Enrique, PSG have now been crowned European champions in both 2025 and 2026 and have lifted the UEFA Super Cup in 2025 and 2026, in addition to their domestic successes in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France. Such sustained supremacy at club level across Europe is rare in recent memory.
The match was also notable for the appointment of referee Omar Artan from Somalia. Artan became the first referee from outside Europe to take charge of a UEFA Super Cup match; he had previously been prevented from entering the United States to officiate at the 2026 World Cup.
