UHMR warns: Afternoon storms with heavy rain, strong wind and hail possible
Morning rain totals highest in Berovo and Vinica; afternoon and evening instability may bring heavy showers, thunderstorms, strong wind and hail.

Published: Macedonia — 25 August, 2026 09:14. The Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) reports that during the past 24 hours the largest measured rainfall totals fell in Berovo and Vinica, where 6 liters per square meter were recorded.
UHMR's morning data show 4 liters per square meter at Popova Shapka and 2 liters per square meter each in Strumica and Gevgelija. The agency notes these figures come from UHMR rain-gauge sites and warns that, because showers are locally driven, some places may have received significantly more rain than the official measurements indicate.
Afternoon instability, risk of severe cells
Forecasters expect sunny and warm conditions during the morning, but instability will increase across many areas in the afternoon and evening. Periods of heavy, downpouring rain, thunderstorms and stronger winds are forecast for multiple locations.
Locally, UHMR says the convective activity could intensify and create conditions for severe storms, with strengthened to strong winds and hail possible. Daily maximum temperatures are expected to range between 32 and 38 degrees Celsius.
In Shkup the morning will be sunny and warm with little to moderate cloudiness. In the evening parts of the basin may see heavy rain and thunder, while a weak to moderate southerly wind will blow. The maximum temperature in the capital is forecast to reach 38 degrees Celsius.
