Ukraine asks NATO for demining equipment through urgent response mechanism
Request aims to boost the State Emergency Service of Ukraine's capacity to clear mines and explosive remnants, particularly in areas hit hardest by Russian attacks, NATO said today.
Ukraine has formally asked for international assistance through NATO's urgent response mechanism to bolster its capacity for demining and the removal of explosive devices, NATO said today.
Request targets emergency-response units across the country
The appeal was submitted to speed up delivery of specialized tools and equipment needed by teams clearing mines and other explosive remnants left by the fighting, the alliance added.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine warned that, as a result of Russian attacks, large parts of the country remain contaminated with mines and other explosive devices, creating a serious hazard for civilians and critical infrastructure.
Clearing these hazards has been designated a strategic priority for civilian safety and for the recovery and reconstruction of affected areas.
The request specifically asks for specialized demining equipment to supply units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine across the country, with priority for regions most heavily hit by Russian attacks.
