Ukraine: Verkhovna Rada extends martial law and mobilization for 90 days

The Verkhovna Rada approved legislation proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky to extend martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine for another 90 days, covering the period from 1 November to 29 January 2027, the parliament said on its website.

The two bills—one prolonging martial law and the other renewing the general mobilization—were adopted by lawmakers after being submitted by the presidential administration.

Background and previous extensions

Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion on 24 February 2022, the Verkhovna Rada has repeatedly extended martial law in successive 90-day periods; the latest vote continues that pattern.

On 29 December 2025, Zelensky said: "Ukraine will lift martial law (which, among other things, forbids Ukrainian men subject to mobilization from leaving the country) only after the war with Russia ends and security guarantees are provided."

The new extension keeps in place the restrictions and mobilization measures already affecting parts of the population and the armed forces. Parliament published the texts of the adopted laws on its official website.

With this vote, authorities have set the next formal review point for late January 2027, unless a new request for prolongation is submitted before that deadline.
