Antonio Saveski, a 33-year-old youth basketball coach from Ohrid, died in a traffic crash on the night of September 2, 2026, authorities say. Local basketball community in shock
Saveski was well known in youth basketball circles and most recently worked with the Angeli club. Earlier in his career he coached at Vardar, Vodno Sans and Ohrid. Colleagues and players described the news as “horrible” and said the loss is deeply felt across regional junior programs.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the basic sequence of events on the scene: the Hyundai with Ohrid license plates first collided with stray dogs, then with roadside metal barriers; the car ignited after the collision. Emergency crews responded, but Saveski did not survive his injuries.
Police and investigators at the scene are documenting the crash; the ministry’s initial information places the time of the accident at approximately 23:00 on September 2, 2026. Authorities have not released further technical details or any preliminary findings about speed, road conditions or possible other causes.
Saveski was 33 years old and had a reputation for developing young players. His most recent engagement was with Angeli; earlier posts included coaching assignments at Vardar, Vodno Sans and the Ohrid club.
The local basketball community is preparing tributes and the clubs where he worked are expected to issue statements and hold commemorations. Further information, including funeral arrangements and any official condolences, has not yet been published by the clubs.
