Horror on a Croatian Beach: Tourist Struck by Lightning Due to a Sun Umbrella
A Czech citizen is fighting for her life in intensive care after being hit by lightning while walking on the beach in Baška.

A dramatic rescue operation took place early this morning on the popular Croatian island of Krk, after a severe thunderstorm swept through the wider Kvarner region. Around 7:10 AM, a powerful lightning strike severely injured a woman who was on the famous beach in the tourist town of Baška at the time. This unfortunate event once again reminded all visitors of the unpredictability of summer storms on the Adriatic coast.
According to initial reports from the scene, the accident occurred while the tourist was trying to carry a sun umbrella. It is presumed that the metal structure of the umbrella attracted the strong electrical discharge, causing a direct hit. The quick and composed reaction of a local beach lifeguard, who immediately rushed over and provided essential first aid, was of crucial importance in those critical moments before professional medical teams arrived.
Due to the severity of the injuries caused by the lightning strike, an emergency medical helicopter was immediately called for a rapid evacuation. The patient was urgently transported to the Clinical Hospital Center in Rijeka. Health authorities from this institution officially confirmed that the woman was promptly admitted to the intensive care unit, where she is under constant and strict medical supervision in order to stabilize her health condition.
Although the identity of the victim has not yet been officially released by the competent institutions, unofficial sources from Croatian media indicate that she is a Czech citizen. This incident has caused concern among tourists spending their summer vacations in the region. Local authorities and rescue services continuously urge all visitors to be extremely cautious, to follow weather forecasts, and to strictly avoid open spaces, especially beaches, during thunderstorms, which are a common occurrence at this time of year.
