Vardar to play opening official match in Ohrid instead of Skopje

Vardar will open its official campaign of the regional league away from Skopje: the reigning Macedonian champion faces Vojvodina in Ohrid’s Biljanini Izvori Hall at 17:30 on 17 August 2026.

The match marks the start of the season for Macedonian clubs in the regional competition, with Vardar selected to play the first fixture of the debut campaign.

Reason for the venue change

The club’s switch from Skopje to Ohrid is explained by Vardar’s participation in a new international tournament hosted by the lakeside city; the tournament’s schedule and events prompted the team to remain in the region.

Vardar’s delegation did not return to the capital after the Struga tournament, where the team lost in the final to GRK Ohrid; instead, the squad continued on to Ohrid ahead of the regional-league opener.

Earlier developments in Macedonian handball included Stojanov naming the 14 players who will travel to Mostar.
