Velimir Perasović returns as Baskonia head coach on deal until 2028

Vitoria — Velimir Perasović has been appointed head coach of Baskonia on a contract running through 2028, the Spanish club announced on 14 October 2026. He replaces Paolo Galbiati after the club ended its cooperation with the Italian earlier the same day following poor results in the EuroLeague.

Return to a familiar project

This will be Perasović’s fourth spell in charge at Baskonia. The Croatian coach is a well-known figure in Vitoria: he has managed the team in 253 matches, making him the second coach with the most appearances on the club’s bench in its history.

In his previous stints with the club Perasović won the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Supercup, and he led Baskonia to the EuroLeague Final Four in 2016 — the club’s most recent appearance at that stage of the competition.

The decision to bring Perasović back follows a run of disappointing results in the EuroLeague that prompted the club to part ways with Galbiati on 14 October 2026. Baskonia have turned to an experienced hand to stabilise performances both in Europe and domestically.

Perasović’s immediate task will be to steady a team struggling for consistency and to push for better outcomes in the EuroLeague group phase while maintaining competitiveness in Spanish domestic competitions.
