Max Verstappen to stay with Red Bull until end of 2030

Max Verstappen has extended his stay with Red Bull Racing, signing a contract that keeps the four-time world champion with the team through the end of 2030, bringing an end to months of transfer speculation.

Verstappen’s previous deal ran to the end of 2028, and escape clauses in that contract had fuelled rumours linking him with rival outfits such as Mercedes. Instead, the Dutch driver – now on 71 career wins – committed his future to the team with which he has collected all of his titles.

Market repercussions and timing

“I have always said that this team is my second family. Continuing the journey with the team with which I have spent my entire career is something I have always wanted,” Verstappen said, stressing that his aim remains to win more championships.

The timing of the announcement carries symbolic weight: the news was released ahead of what was to be Verstappen’s home race, and came before the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort was removed from the Formula 1 calendar.

Red Bull’s poor start to the season and the narrow loss of last year’s title to Lando Norris did not prevent the team and driver from agreeing the extension. The move reshuffles the driver market: teams such as Mercedes will now look for alternative options, and other seats are expected to be taken more quickly in the coming transfer windows.
