Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikolovski: I expect prosecutors to look into Sasho Mijalkov

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikolovski said he expects the Public Prosecutor's Office to take up an inquiry into former secret police chief Sasho Mijalkov. Nikolovski made the remark during the panel discussion "Strategic Connectivity for Stability: the EU and North Macedonia in the New Geopolitical Reality."

Comments during a panel discussion

Speaking about the period when his party was in opposition, Nikolovski recalled the skepticism they faced from various quarters. He addressed Daniel Brown, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation's official representative whose term in Macedonia is ending, and reminded the audience that they worked together despite doubt and resistance.

In that part of his address Nikolovski said, "including the owner of this hotel with whom we had clashes," attributing the words to his own experience during those years.

After that passage he added that he expects the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate Sasho Mijalkov. The deputy prime minister did not provide further operational details at the panel.

The official whom Nikolovski mentioned, Sasho Mijalkov, is described in his remarks as the former head of the secret police. Nikolovski's statement places renewed public attention on calls for judicial follow-up.
