Viktor Orbán visits Aleksandar Vučić at family home near Belgrade

Former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán paid a private visit to former Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić at the family home of Vučić’s parents near Belgrade on 31 October 2026. The meeting came after both men lost power in parliamentary elections within a seven‑month span: Orbán after 16 years in office and Vučić after 14 years.

Meeting at the family house

Vučić welcomed Orbán and posted a video of the encounter in which he addressed their recent setbacks and underlined their personal bond. In the video he said, "I am very glad that I can host Viktor Orbán, my great friend, my brother. We will have a great time here, in my father's house, not far from Belgrade. And yes, both of us recently lost in the elections, but we have not lost our dignity, our pride or our faith. Welcome, Viktor."

Orbán replied to the welcome by stressing solidarity between long‑time allies. He told Vučić that "friends always remain friends" and that "true friends become even closer in hard times."

The two men embraced during the visit, and Vučić closed his post with the message, "We will return!"

The encounter was brief and private, held at the family property rather than an official residence, and was shared publicly through Vučić’s video post. Both leaders have recently seen their parties lose parliamentary majority after many years in government.
