Higher Court in Belgrade orders 30 days' detention for police chiefs Marko Kričak and Boško Sekulović
Higher Court cites risk of witness interference as it holds Marko Kričak and Boško Sekulović on charges of abuse of office.

The Higher Court in Belgrade ordered 30 days of pre-trial detention for two senior police officials — Marko Kričak, head of the Criminal Police Directorate, and Boško Sekulović, head of the Crime Suppression Service — after their arrest last weekend following a complaint filed by the defence lawyers of Veselin Milić.
Detention justified by risk of witness interference
The court said the detention for M.K. and B.S. was imposed on the legal grounds set out in Article 211, paragraph 1, point 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code, citing “special circumstances indicating that the accused, if at liberty, would interfere in the proceedings by influencing witnesses.”
Both men face an indictment for abuse of official position under Article 359, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. In addition, the court noted that Marko Kričak is separately accused of abuse and maltreatment under Article 137, paragraph 3 in connection with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
The decision can be appealed within three days of receipt to the Criminal Extra‑procedural Council of the Special Department for Combating Corruption at the Higher Court in Belgrade, the court statement added.
Prosecutors said the arrests followed findings that between 12 May and 3 June 2026, while serving as officials in the Ministry of Interior of Serbia, the two allegedly exceeded and abused their official powers and failed to perform official duties, causing damage and seriously violating the rights of the injured party — former head of the Belgrade City Police Department, Veselin Milić. The alleged misconduct relates to actions connected with the murder of Aleksandar Nešović on 12 May 2026 at restaurant "27" in the Senjak neighbourhood of Belgrade.
