VMRO‑DPMNE asks prosecutors to investigate €4.6m in commissions for Corridor 8
The party says the State Audit Office flagged inefficient management and a €61 million EU grant at risk because the first two phases remain unfinished.
VMRO‑DPMNE has demanded that the Public Prosecutor's Office launch an immediate investigation after a State Audit Office report, saying the state paid €4.6 million in commissions for funds that were not withdrawn while the Corridor 8 rail project remains unfinished.
Party cites risk to EU grant and inefficient project management
According to the party, the State Audit Office identified “inefficient management” and warned of a serious risk that a €61 million EU grant for the third phase of Corridor 8 could be lost because the rail infrastructure was not realized.
VMRO‑DPMNE says auditors found the first and second phases of the railway were not completed and deadlines were widely missed, which, instead of delivering modern infrastructure, left citizens with large costs and an increase in public debt.
“The State Audit Office has found inefficient management, and additionally warned of a risk of losing €61 million in EU grant for the third phase of Corridor 8. Who is responsible for these failures? Who allowed the state to pay millions of euros in commissions? And who will be held accountable if someone's actions or omissions have caused damage to the state budget?” the party asked.
On that basis VMRO‑DPMNE urged the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate the audit findings in detail, examine all decisions, signed contracts and procedures, and identify those responsible and whether there are grounds for criminal liability.
“SDSM and DUI cannot hide and remain silent while citizens pay the bill for their catastrophic governance in the past. €4.6 million in commissions, years of delays, an unfinished railway and a risk to European funds. That is the legacy of SDSM and DUI,” the party concluded.
