Runoff vote in Brvenica to elect new mayor after Ilievski's death

A mayoral runoff is being held today in the Municipality of Brvenica across 10 settlements and 24 polling stations to choose a new mayor after the incumbent, Jovica Ilievski, died on 23 June this year.

In the first round of the early local elections none of the six candidates secured the required majority, so the contest has moved to a second round between the two top finishers.

Voting details

Polling stations opened at 07:00 and will remain open until 19:00, when voting concludes for the day.

The voter register lists 16,256 registered voters. Of those, 449 are recorded as temporarily working abroad, and nine voters are listed as being in prison or in detention.

The second round will determine who will complete the term left vacant after Jovica Ilievski's death on 23 June; the two remaining candidates now compete for the mayoralty across the municipality's 24 polling places.
