Safe City cameras register 1,415 traffic violations in Ohrid in 10 days; 1,211 for speeding

In a ten-day period after installation of the Safe City camera network under SVR Ohrid, authorities recorded 1,415 traffic violations, police statistics show. Speeding accounted for the overwhelming majority of cases: 1,211 of the violations were for exceeding the posted limit, or more than 85 percent of all recorded offences.

Complaints from drivers on Zeleznichka Boulevard

The rollout of automated enforcement has provoked strong reactions among Ohrid drivers, with the most complaints coming from Zeleznichka Boulevard. Motorists say the short duration of the yellow signal does not give enough time to stop safely and that unexpected fines follow, increasing traffic confusion at busy intersections.

Following the surge in public complaints, officials announced an adjustment to traffic signal timing. The duration of the yellow light will be increased from 2 to 5 seconds.

"This change should allow drivers to better assess the situation, brake in time and avoid unnecessary fines and risky traffic situations," added spokesperson Dimoski.

Police urged patience and respect for traffic rules, reminding road users that all offences recorded by the Safe City system are processed automatically and notices are sent to vehicle owners.
