24-year-old stabs man to death and seriously wounds woman in Šibenik

Croatian police suspect a 24-year-old man attacked a 28-year-old man with a sharp object during the night from Monday to Tuesday in Šibenik; the victim died at the scene and the suspect then reportedly attacked a 22-year-old woman, who sustained life-threatening injuries.

County prosecutor opened investigation for murder and attempted murder

The Šibenik County State Attorney led an investigation today on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Authorities say the assaults occurred between 14 and 15 September.

Emergency workers alerted police after finding a dead 28-year-old man and a severely injured 22-year-old woman in a rented apartment at about 2:30 a.m. The suspect was located shortly afterward in the Šibenik area.

Investigators have said one of their main working theories is that the suspect and the victims had consumed drugs in the rented apartment prior to the attacks, though the precise motive remains unclear.

After his arrest the 24-year-old was reportedly under the strong influence of drugs and could not be formally questioned by police; he remained under medical supervision at the hospital in Šibenik.

Police records show the suspect had been treated several times in previous years and had been charged before with offences related to drug abuse and property crimes.
