Vardar parts with Fabiani; Janevski and Vasovski emerge as coaching candidates

Vardar has announced the end of its cooperation with coach Cristian Fabiani as the club begins an immediate search for stability on and off the pitch.

The Argentine coach’s departure was widely expected inside the club’s circles after a turbulent spell in which discipline and organisation reportedly broke down and several high-priced signings brought in via his agent failed to deliver. Names linked to those transfers include Gerson Rodriguez, Puelio, Pires, Torres and Castaneda.

The club statement confirming the termination did not disclose any buyout or penalty figures. Fabiani had been employed on a three-year contract, with media speculation putting his salary at €10,000 per month. Questions remain about who will bear the financial consequences of long-term deals signed under the previous management and how the club will cover the multi‑million euro cost of wasted contracts.

Supporters demand changes at the top

Supporters’ group Komitite has intensified calls for a wider overhaul, insisting that removing Fabiani is not enough. Their central demand is the resignation or replacement of Milenko Nedelkovski from the role of executive director, arguing that mismanagement at the club’s leadership level enabled the cascade of errors. Allegations include questionable transfer policy, poor preparation for the season and even the purchase of flight tickets through a domestic company that apparently lacks a tourism licence.

Komitite have proposed Johan Tarchulovski as the preferred candidate to take over executive duties. On the coaching shortlist, former Vardar figures Chede Janevski and Aleksandar Vasovski are leading names. Janevski is credited with guiding the club to its biggest recent European success — the Europa League group stage — and is remembered as part of Vardar’s golden generation that were Yugoslav champions in 1987.

Aleksandar Vasovski, currently coach of Sileks, is also in contention; during the coronavirus period he was part of a Vardar title-winning context. In May it was noted: "Да го имаш Васовски, а носиш скап „гаучос“ за тренер" — a line that has been widely repeated by fans as shorthand for the contrast between local coaching talent and expensive foreign appointments.

For now the club faces immediate sporting and financial questions while fans demand a swift, comprehensive restructuring. Who will take responsibility for costly contracts and whether the board will act on supporters’ demands remain the open questions as Vardar prepares for the new season.
