Extra disinsection operation in Drachevo as West Nile cases cluster in the neighbourhood

The Center for Public Health, together with Kisela Voda Municipality, is carrying out an extraordinary disinsection operation today in the Drachevo neighbourhood aimed at protecting residents from mosquitoes and preventing their mass reproduction.

Specialized field teams are applying an appropriate larvicide at all critical points: drainage channels, stagnant waters and other wet spots where water collects and provides breeding conditions for the insects. To further reduce mosquito numbers, a field treatment against adult mosquitoes will be performed on Friday across this part of the municipality.

The majority of those infected with West Nile fever are from Drachevo.

Epidemiological advice and precautions

Epidemiologists appeal to citizens to follow personal protection measures: avoid going outside when mosquitoes are most active, use repellents, and seek medical attention immediately at the first possible symptoms.

Kisela Voda Municipality also reminds beekeepers to take timely steps to protect their bee colonies because of the announced spraying against adult mosquitoes that will take place on Friday.

Half of those infected with West Nile fever are from Drachevo.
