The Russian Supreme Court has barred Yabloko from taking part in next month's parliamentary elections, a move that removes the only registered liberal, anti-war party from the ballot.
Yabloko has been the only registered party in Russia openly opposing the war against Ukraine; the court's decision follows a legal challenge brought by the small nationalist party Rodina.
Legal challenge and accusations
Rodina accused Yabloko of receiving foreign funding, violating copyright law and promoting extremism — allegations that were the basis for the lawsuit leading to the ban.
Supporters of Yabloko gathered outside the courtroom in Moscow during the hearing, with hundreds — mostly young people — singing and waving flags to show their backing for the party.
The ruling removes Yabloko from participation in the upcoming parliamentary vote and further narrows the space for organized anti-war political activity in Russia ahead of the election.
