Vucic Fires Up His Skoda for the Prime Ministerial Race Across Serbia
The Serbian president announced a grassroots campaign using his personal vehicle, preparing for a return to the head of the government.
The current head of the Serbian state, Aleksandar Vucic, plans to launch his new political battle behind the wheel of his own vehicle. He revealed that he will conduct the upcoming election campaign by traveling across the country in his Skoda, aiming to directly persuade citizens to entrust him with the prime ministerial position. This unusual approach is intended to emphasize his closeness to ordinary people ahead of the parliamentary elections, attempting to project modesty before the electorate.
According to his words, the plan is simple and does not require complex political strategies. The leader of Serbia emphasized that he will personally drive from one settlement to another, seeking the trust of the people to take charge of the executive branch, provided the party nominates him for that role. Following his departure from the presidential office, he will be featured on the "United Serbia" electoral list, led by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, officially marking his return to the partisan arena.
The procedure for new elections entails an initial collapse of the current government cabinet, which would be followed by the official calling of the vote. Vucic plans to remain in the presidential post for a maximum of two more weeks after the elections are announced, before finally stepping down. Citizens are expected to head to the polls within a period of eighty to one hundred and twenty days, leaving ample room for intensive field activity and visits to numerous municipalities across the state.
Although he had long categorically rejected any possibility of returning to the prime ministerial seat, which he vacated in 2017, the Serbian leader recently changed his stance. His resignation announcement in late June still lacks a precise date, raising doubts among some opposition media regarding his true intentions. Some analysts warn that the public should be cautious with such promises of stepping down from the highest state office, considering them part of a broader political tactic.
