Vučić says his son was banned from entering Montenegro for three years
The president said he had not been informed about the measure, while Montenegrin authorities lifted bans for 18 foreign nationals in November 2021.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Tuesday that his son had been barred from entering Montenegro for three years.
Vučić: "Did you know that my son was expelled for three years, that is, he was banned from entry,"
Vučić spoke publicly about the measure and repeated the claim: "Did you know that my son was expelled for three years, that is, he was banned from entry," he said.
On 5 November 2021 the Police Directorate of Montenegro announced that entry bans had been lifted for 18 foreign nationals who had previously faced the measure, despite what was described as an absence of legal grounds for those bans. On that same day, Montenegrin public authorities listed Danilo Vučić among those whose ban was removed.
Two days later a Belgrade daily reported that Danilo Vučić had been subject to a ban that was in force from March 2020 "due to links with supporter groups and extremely radical nationalist groups and individuals, as well as links with persons of security interest and criminal structures."
Vučić has said he was not aware that his son had been banned from Montenegro and that neither he nor his son had been officially informed about the measure. He suggested it might be connected to the fact that his son had appeared at court on two occasions and speculated that the ban could have been intended as a message about how authorities would treat the Serbian president.
The statement about his son's ban came amid a period of heightened tensions in the region after other public comments by Vučić on matters relating to Kosovo and water resources, which prompted reactions from Pristina.
