Vučić announces snap elections within three months and forecasts 4.5% GDP growth next year
At a meeting in Belegis he said Serbia led Europe in growth in the first half and vowed elections "no later than three months".
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Sunday that snap parliamentary elections will be held within at most three months and predicted that Serbia will post a 4.5 percent GDP growth next year, which he described as proof the country will be "clearly first in Europe".
Speaking at a political meeting in Belegis, in the Stara Pazova municipality, Vučić cited Eurostat figures for the first half of the year, saying Serbia recorded the continent's highest economic growth and calling that performance "a precondition for the growth of wages and pensions."
Election timetable and political framing
On the timing of the vote, Vučić said elections will be held "no later than three months" and argued that the ballot will decide "the future of Serbia." He framed the early vote as a choice with significant consequences for the country's direction.
Vučić also emphasised Serbia’s foreign-policy stance, noting the country remains the only state that has not imposed sanctions on Russia while at the same time maintaining good relations with both Kyiv and Moscow.
Addressing defence policy, he said Serbia must be "militarily neutral and strong" and called for domestic production of unmanned aerial vehicles in cooperation with Israel. "For a strong army, Serbia needs to build a drone factory with Israel. And with whom else should we produce those drones? Who is better than them? And if they are produced in Serbia, they will be our drones," Vučić added.
The president's remarks come amid ongoing debates in the region about economic performance, defence procurement and Serbia's diplomatic positioning between East and West.
