Vučić: I will call elections by September 10 and may run for prime minister
Vučić said the SNS will decide in Niš and that, if backed, he would propose a cabinet of a prime minister and 12 ministers.
President Aleksandar Vučić said he will call snap parliamentary elections within the next few days and that he believes the vote will take place on the morning of September 9 or 10, with September 10 likely the last possible date.
Vučić noted that the main board meeting of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will be held today in Niš, where party leaders will discuss the timing of an early parliamentary vote and the possibility of his candidacy for prime minister.
He said that, if he receives backing from the party, he plans to submit two proposals: one immediately and a second after he resigns from the presidency.
Proposal for a very small cabinet
Vučić told supporters: "If I receive support from the people to become prime minister ... My first proposal will be to make the smallest government in the history of Serbia — a prime minister and 12 ministers. That will be my pledge to the citizens."
He added that he is preparing seriously to take on the role of prime minister and that this would likely be his final term in high office.
Vučić also reminded that, after his current presidential term ends, he will no longer have the right to run again for the presidency, and he has repeatedly emphasized he will not change the constitution to allow another term.
