For pride and the fans: Vardar chases victory against MT Melsungen

Vardar hosts MT Melsungen on 28 October 2026 at 18:45 in what will be the club’s final match of the EHF Champions League season on home ground in Skopje. Although the Macedonian champion has already been eliminated from contention for the main round, the team goes into the game determined to reward its supporters.

The club’s chances to progress are gone after five matches played so far, with one remaining. Vardar arrive buoyed by an away victory in Nantes, a result that underlined the squad’s ability to challenge strong opponents and built confidence ahead of the home meeting with Melsungen.

Coach Ivan Cupic framed the match as one of pride and duty toward the fans who have filled Jane Sandanski arena during Vardar’s Champions League home fixtures.

“For the fans and our pride”

At the pre-match press conference Cupic said: “We have one more match in the EHF Champions League and, unfortunately for all of us, the last one this season in this competition. We played five matches, and one remains. MT Melsungen will certainly come to Skopje determined to fight for a place in the main phase.

“My thinking is very simple. After the two defeats in ‘Jane Sandanski’, now it is also about our pride and honour. This hall and our supporters, who backed us at the highest level in the two home matches in the Champions League, deserve that we finish the campaign with a win.

“We want to win not only for the club and to continue the winning streak, but above all to repay the fans — the people who are always behind us and constantly give us extra strength.

“We beat Nantes and, God willing, if on Wednesday we also defeat Melsungen, that will be a reward for the supporters who never give up on us. The entire domestic season lies ahead of us, the regional league and the EHF European League. We want the hall to remain full, and Vardar and our home ground to become a fortress again.”
