AHV seizes around two tons of food at Chento green market
Inspectors found vendors selling food outside designated stalls in unhygienic conditions, prompting the seizure and destruction of roughly two tonnes.

The Food and Veterinary Agency (AHV), together with the Municipal Inspection of the City of Skopje and the State Market Inspectorate, carried out an extraordinary inspection today at the green market in the Chento neighbourhood of Skopje and seized around two tons of unsafe food of various kinds.
The inspection focused on the conditions under which food is offered for sale and whether vendors comply with legal requirements for safe storage and handling. Inspectors found that some products were being sold outside the locations designated for stalls and in unhygienic conditions, increasing the risk to food safety and consumer health.
Products removed and destroyed
The seized items were withdrawn from the market and were destroyed in a manner intended to prevent further use. Officials said the removal was part of routine action to interrupt the circulation of food that poses a hazard to the public.
Relevant inspection services announced they will continue to take measures within their legal authority, including further targeted controls at open markets and checks on how food is stored and presented for sale.
AHV said it will maintain intensified inspections, both independently and in coordination with other competent institutions, with the stated aim of protecting public health and ensuring that food available on the market is safe.
Consumers were reminded to buy food from designated stalls and to report any unhygienic practices or vendors operating outside the market's regulated areas to the appropriate authorities.
